Résumé

Il y a plus de 70 ans, étaient publiés les deux romans-chocs de science-fiction : 1984 et Le meilleur des mondes.

Aujourd’hui, le monde se plonge de nouveau dans ces romans : 1984 de George Orwell est en rupture de stock aux Etats-Unis et dans bien d’autres pays tandis que Le meilleur des mondes d’Aldous Huxley est devenu une référence, constamment citée dans les grands médias.

Du leader des Pink Floyd à l’auteure de la série multiprimée La servante écarlate aux plus grands journalistes et éditorialistes, tout le monde mentionne aujourd’hui ces deux grands romans futuristes du XXème siècle.

Pourquoi sont-ils plus que jamais d’actualité ?

In the first half of the 20th Century two science fiction novels took the world by storm: Brave New World and Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Today these two works are ablaze in the public’s imagination: George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four ran out of stock in the U.S.A. and other countries, forcing its publisher Penguin Books to rush to print 175,000 new copies. Both Nineteen Eighty-Four and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World are frequently referenced by media, and have become the go-to books for those trying to make sense of today’s maddening pace of political and social mutations.
